Here are some photos from the NEAT 2002 Fair in Downsville, NY on September
13th-15th.
My 10'x10' Quick Shade Tent held many different types of plane from 1.3oz to
7lbs.

Master pilot, Gary Wright, launches his E3D by simply letting go and ends in
a hover.

The ShowFlyer duel was a blast with Dave Wenzlick's Hacker-powered model and
my MaxCim-powered model. Both planes looked and flew great! Dave's flat spin
maneuver made an awesome noise that impressed the crowd!

My buddy, Lynn Bowerman, did the ShowFlyer piloting for me. The ShowFlyer was
an extremely versatile ship. It will hover, perform 3D maneuvers, or simply slow
fly down the field at a craw either upright or inverted.

My original "3D" Akro Champion from Hobby Lobby was upgraded with a 280BB
motor and an additional 4" to the wingspan. The 13oz ship flew magnificently
with an 8x6 APC Sloflyer prop on 8-cells of 800mAh, 5/4AAA NiMH.
In the foreground is my new brushless Champion using the
Model Motors Mini AC
16 turn Speed 280 sized motor.
The plane also weighs 13oz RTF but spins an APC 9x6 Sloflyer prop on 8-cells of
800mAh, 5/4AAA NiMH.
My new Champion has incredible power to climb straight up and stop like it was
sitting on a shelf of air. It will float into a landing without any power and
has great flight duration. The combination of power, light frame, and lift from
the 32" wingspan has resulted in a truly great flyer!

Some Final
Thoughts...
After just returning from 3 days at the NEAT
Fair last weekend, I'm pretty tired but still
very excited. Here is a quick summary of my thoughts and impressions. I felt
that the NEAT Fair
was a great success with over 300 pilots. I met more people than I can remember
and was amazed at just how friendly and approachable everyone was. The NEAT Fair
had something for every R/Cer!
Legendary names like Bob Kopski, Bob Aberle, John Worth, and new AMA hall of
fame inductee Keith Shaw attended. AMA vice presidents, new R/C hall of fame
inductee, Tom Hunt, and the entire SEFLI club made the
fair a memorable event that has elevated the entire electric flight
hobby.
Newer, yet established names like Gary Wright, Steve Neu, Dave Wenzlick (and
others) all contributed to revealing the capabilities of the latest electric
designs.
I also met many designers like Tom Cimato of MaxCim Motors, Bob Boucher of Astro
Flight, and Doug Bender of Mountain Models just to name a few. Friendly (and
some not so friendly) rivalries created new friendships and healthy competition.
I met many E-Zoners, including owner Jim Borke and marketer Shawn Palmer. It was
almost funny how some folks related names, nicknames, and even icons for
identifying themselves. I hope to see more formal E-Zone support in the future.
I was setup on the far right of the field with my E-Zone sign. We had about 12
planes on display when the wind permitted me to bring out my micro-flyers.
The Bergen County Silent Flyers hosted a series of informal chats and should be
commended for their efforts. I apologize to them for not making it to the booth
on Saturday morning like I had promised. The whole weekend went very fast and I
had little free time.
Dave Wenzlick had his Hacker powered Graupner ShowFlyer and I had my MaxCim
powered ShowFlyer. We had fun swapping stories and even managed a dual photo
shoot on Saturday afternoon. When Dave put his ShowFlyer into a flat spin, the
noise made everyone look. Dave is a very accomplished flyer!
Steve Neu’s noon-time demo with his 120amp hotliner was so impressive, it
borderlined on being scary!
Gary Wright...the name is already synonymous with great flying.
Jeff Meyer’s and I both brought our Mega powered ProJeti wings and sold out the
supply that Hobby Lobby had brought.
People came from all over the US and Canada to this event with their families.
Our hosts from SEFLI worked very hard and for that we owe them our gratitude.
