Winter Flying & Our RC Club Neighbors

As we reported in our special edition newsletter the weather has not kept some of us from flying. The Geneva RC Club F.L.A.P.S. invited us to join them for their indoor funfly event at the Marcus Whitman High School gym. Some members also took part in their winter outdoor flying event at the F.L.A.P.S. field.

This was a great oportunity for us to get to know our neighboring club a little better. This is another aspect as to just how great this hobby of ours really is, to get togeather with modelers from other clubs! Also, lest we forget, some of the members of the F.L.A.P.S. club helped cler rocks for our new flying field.

The staff and I here at the HAWK’s NEST agree that we, the Canandaigua C.H.I.E.F.S., should broaden relationships with other clubs like the F.L.A.P.S. We hope that the C.H.I.E.F.S. can consider ways to bring this about at future club meetings.

RC Groups.Com

This is a fairly new addition to the multitude of websites out there on the internet devoted to the RC hobby. I explored this site and found it to be, some what to my suprise, really pretty good.

The main tabs at the top of their home page are for RC Airplanes, Boats, and Cars. In the airplane section you can filter (sort) on All, Fuel, Electric, or Sailplanes. They also have filters for My RC Groups, where you can identify only the groups you have an interest in. They also have filters for Calendar, Gallery, Members, and Search.

Some of the discussion groups in the airplane fuel section include Engines, Giant Scale, 1/2 A Planes, Fun Flyers, Jets, Scale Modeling, to name a few.
I explored the Scale Modeling group and got a chance to e-mail back and forth with a guy from Quebec Canada, who was displaying the work he had done on a 103” WS DH Beaver. I got a DH Beaver kit with floats included for X-Mass and i wanted to get some input from someone who has worked on building a scale model of this airplane. Mine is a 72” WS kit from Unionville Hobby Supply, P.O. Box 135, Markham Ontario, Canada L3P3J5. The chance to have this kind of a direct exchange with someone in the hobby I found to be helpfull and rewarding.

It appeared to me that this site had alot to offer and the Staff and I here at the HAWK’S NEST agree it would be well worth a look.
